The governing body has confirmed that Expo 2020 Dubai will be postponed for one year
as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic after two-thirds majority of Bureau International
des Expositions (BIE) Member States voted in favour of postponing the event. The global
mega event will now run from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, and as communicated
by Expo, “a delay that allows all participants to safely navigate the impact of COVID-19,
and allows the World Expo to focus on a collective desire for new thinking to identify
solutions to some of the greatest challenges of our time.”
Prof. Ghaleb Ali Al Hadrami Al Breiki, UAEU Commissioner General to Expo 2020 expressed
his support and stated that, “as the UAE’s leading academic institution, we will use
this time to focus our resources particularly in the fields of health and science
to work together to come through this emergency. If this global pandemic has thought
us anything, it is that when we come together as one, nothing is impossible! We will
come back together even stronger and deliver a truly world-class event.”
Expo 2020 Dubai has confirmed that it will retain its name and remains committed to
hosting an exceptional event that will celebrate humanity’s resilience, creativity,
